Through the Lens: Socotra Revealed
A Purpose-Built Photographic Expedition
Created exclusively for photographers, Socotra Through the Lens is a purpose-built expedition focused on light, landscape, and time. The itinerary follows the rhythm of sun and shadow, prioritizing golden hours, remote locations, and extended shooting sessions. Access to rarely visited sites, flexible daily schedules, and logistical support are designed to serve the photographic process. This is not a sightseeing tour, but a visual exploration—an opportunity to document one of the world's last untouched islands with intention and depth.

Day by Day
Arher dunes · snorkelling · Ras Erisel
We meet you at Socotra airport and drive to Arher, where towering dunes rise straight out of the coastline and desert meets ocean in a single, breathtaking panorama. In the evening we watch the sun set where the Arabian Sea meets the Indian Ocean.

Arher dunes · Homhil protected area
We start at the Homhil protected area, then climb the Arher dunes for an unforgettable sunrise, golden sand against deep blue sea, with spinner dolphins often passing offshore. After lunch we explore the Dihamri marine reserve—rich fish life and colourful coral, ideal for snorkelling or diving. In the afternoon Homhil again: dragon blood trees, desert roses and frankincense, its cliff pools and rock channels. Bring your swimwear. We close the day photographing a spectacular sunset.

Momi plateau · desert rose
Today we head to the Momi plateau to photograph desert roses (bottle trees). This is the densest concentration of bottle trees on the island. Every tree has its own posture—some straight as giant vases, some twin-trunked as if embracing, some lying against the rock—and bare branches suddenly breaking into pink, rose-red or pale white trumpet-shaped clusters. Against a barren backdrop, on limestone with almost no soil, they write the survival story of millions of years of isolated evolution. Today's locations are chosen according to the blossom.

Dragon blood tree forest · Diksam plateau
Diksam is known as the home of the dragon blood tree. We spend two full days exploring the area, including the famous Firmihin forest, where the layered canopies are astonishing. We walk through what feels like an alien world, looking for compositions among the umbrella crowns. We also make one unforgettable night-photography session—silhouettes of people and trees under moonlight or stars, the Milky Way, or star trails.

Diksam plateau · Detwah Lagoon
After sunrise among the dragon blood trees we drive to the island's most famous sight, Detwah Lagoon—white sand and turquoise water at high tide, astonishing reflections at low tide. You can also climb the ridge beside the lagoon to find the solitary bottle trees, and watch the sun go down over Detwah. Your tent is pitched at our exclusive lagoon camp, with shared toilet and shower facilities.

Dolphin Bay · Shuab beach · Qalansiyah
Sunrise over Detwah is just as remarkable—walk the sand and take in the view. After breakfast we take a boat to Shuab, the "golden beach", passing dramatic cliffs and quite possibly more spinner dolphins. Shuab is made for a relaxed morning of swimming and scenery; then back by boat to the private camp beside the blue lagoon for lunch. In the afternoon we return to Hadiboh, the capital, to visit the local market and pick up souvenirs.
